Matching the scroll to the person actually speaking
The hardest part of operating a prompter is pace. Rehearse a paragraph at the real speaking speed, set playback so the current line sits at a comfortable reading height, and let the operator adjust during the session rather than committing to one speed in advance. Presenters usually read faster on camera than in rehearsal, so start slightly slow and bring it up once they settle. Font size follows reading distance: the farther the speaker is from the screen, the larger the text and the fewer words per line, and short lines keep eye movement small enough to read as steady eye contact. What happens when the operator drops offline
A prompter that freezes mid-sentence is worse than no prompter.
